  • Class = muscle relaxant
  • MOA
    • Centrally-acting
    • Analog of GABA, but no evidence it works on the GABA system
  • Advantages
    • Great for spasticity in spinal cord injured, brain injured, and stroke patients
    • Relatively inexpensive
  • Disadvantages
    • Sedation
  • Dosing
    • 10, 20-mg pills
    • Starting dose: 5  mg PO tid
    • Titrating: Increase by one 5-mg pill tid every 3 days until desired effect
    • Max dose:  80 mg/day
    • Adequate trial period:  4 weeks
  • Note:
    • MUST taper dose to discontinue
    • Renal dosing
