Generic name = Baclofen
- Trade name = Lioresal
- Class = muscle relaxant
- MOA
- Centrally-acting
- Analog of GABA, but no evidence it works on the GABA system
- Advantages
- Great for spasticity in spinal cord injured, brain injured, and stroke patients
- Relatively inexpensive
- Disadvantages
- Sedation
- Dosing
- 10, 20-mg pills
- Starting dose: 5 mg PO tid
- Titrating: Increase by one 5-mg pill tid every 3 days until desired effect
- Max dose: 80 mg/day
- Adequate trial period: 4 weeks
- Note:
- MUST taper dose to discontinue
- Renal dosing
