Setup – Medial and Lateral Plantar NCS

Electrode placement (use the bar electrode)

14-cm distance (around the medial malleolus)

  • E1 (black):  Posterior and superior to the medial malleolus
  • E2 (red):  Proximal
  • Ground:  Medial ankle (between stimulation and pickup)

Setup – Tibial Motor NCS

aka “medial plantar motor

Stimulate 8-cm proximal to E1 (curved line around medial malleolus)

Electrode placement (use the bar electrode)

  • E1 (black):  Abductor hallucis brevis (AHB) muscle (drop off the navicular bone and go 1-cm proximal)
  • E2 (red):  Distally along the long axis of the foot
  • Ground:  Medial ankle (between stimulation and pickup)

  • E1 (black):  Behind the lateral malleolus
  • E2 (red):  Distally
  • Ground:  Lateral leg (between stimulation and pickup sites)
