- Class = muscle relaxant
- MOA
- Centrally-acting
- Binds to alpha-2 adrenergic receptors, increasing presynaptic motor neuron inhibition and reducing spasticity
- Advantages
- Great for spasticity
- Disadvantages
- Can cause lowered blood pressure in spinal cord injured patients that already have a lowered baseline blood pressure
- Dosing
- Starting dose: 4 mg PO at night
- Titrating: Increase by one 4-mg pill every 2-3 days until desired effect
- Max dose: 12 mg/day
- Adequate trial period: 2-3 weeks
- Note:
- Renal dose if CrCl <25
- Hepatic dosing
