  • Class = muscle relaxant
  • MOA
    • Centrally-acting
    • Binds to alpha-2 adrenergic receptors, increasing presynaptic motor neuron inhibition and reducing spasticity
  • Advantages
    • Great for spasticity
  • Disadvantages
    • Can cause lowered blood pressure in spinal cord injured patients that already have a lowered baseline blood pressure
  • Dosing
    • Starting dose: 4  mg PO at night
    • Titrating: Increase by one 4-mg pill every 2-3 days until desired effect
    • Max dose:  12 mg/day
    • Adequate trial period:  2-3 weeks
  • Note:
    • Renal dose if CrCl <25
    • Hepatic dosing
